Baylor Theatre Augmented Reality Recruitment App
Towards the end of 2016 I started playing with Unity and Vuforia in the development of an AR app for the Baylor University Department of Theatre Arts. I wanted to allow prospective students to place our theaters into their own environment and play with them: rotate, scale, walk around them, etc. I ended up shelving the project until Apple released the ARkit and made this functionality a lot more stable. Below is a video of an iOS app I created over several evenings while attending the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August of 2017. I plan to incorporate pinch-to-scale and swipe-to-rotate functionalities; scrapping the buttons taking up valuable screen space.
Virtual Reality Admissions Pieces
Of my own volition (and with the support of my chairman), I spearheaded a virtual reality recruitment initiative for Baylor University Undergraduate Admissions. The motivation for this was two-fold.
#1- They were willing to put up the $15k needed to buy the equipment that would also allow me to conduct my research into sharing theatrical experiences through VR.
#2- It gave me a chance to explore and expand my VR production techniques.
These pieces generally involve hi-res 360/3D video capture using a GoPro Odyssey rig coupled with a Zoom H2N spatial audio recorder.
The video below is the third in a series of VR recruitment videos paired with Baylor branded VR viewers distributed to 15,000 prospective students. For this particular piece I captured about half the shots, helped develop the graphics, created the audio mix, and put together the 4k stereoscopic render.
American Society of Landscape Architects- Klyde Warren Park in VR
The ASLA 2017 Professional Award of Excellence in the General Design category went to Klyde Warren Park - Dallas, TX. I was brought on to create a VR piece showcasing the unique design features that garnered the park such acclaim.
With the direction of Dimensiongate's Ian Tuason, I captured various locations in the park with the GoPro Odyssey rig and H2N spatial audio recorder. I then went through a full post-production workflow: edit, color correction, zenith and nadir patching, sound mix, render, mux.
